Hi, I'm new to the forum and to railway modeling so I'm generally going to sit in the corner, keep quiet, and learn.
Oh, and I do have that murder to plan. 😃

LOL Murder on the Orient Express modelled? I have heard a saying, no question is stupid, if it helps you learn. This is not an elite forum ,we hope to help the modellers across the spectrum, hopefully even the top notch modeller will find something here of use, and be inspired to help others; and newbie or not, always feel free to ask, this is meant to be a friendly helpful forum with out bullying, anyone bullies you shout out and a mod will happily impart why that is NOT a good idea LOL.

In my experience most railway modellers love to be in the position of giving someone else help and advice, feel free to ask.

Thank you for the advice. In my experience it's not just modellers who like to give advice.... 🙂

And, if I'm being honest, the chances of me keeping quiet are vanishingly small... 😂😂

The saying is "There is no such thing as a stupid question, but there are stupid answers!"

Welcome to the forum.  Never ever forget that each and every one of us started at the point you are at now so no matter what we produce nowadays at one point in our lives we looked at a piece of wood/plastic/metal and wondered how on earth we were going to fashion it into what we wanted.  My first ever build was an Airfix model of HMS Ajax at around 5-6 years old in about 1962.  I was so chuffed that the turrets turned!  Asking the questions are what makes the forum because I can assure you questions will come out that even the most experienced amongst us will have to look up the answers!

... and don't forget to think laterally and try new things for yourself. Sometimes less experience is an advantage as you may well think of a new approach to a problem, whereas those who have done it before may well be driven by habit.

Some of the nicest layouts I have seen have been done by "Previously non-railway modellers" choosing to re-create a subject that interests them... especially when they think it through carefully, treat scale as the guide for everything and model what they see in a truly "artistic" sense.

Then again you may well be hapy just getting the trains running and moving on from there. Either way, welcome, feel free to ask anything that may help you get the journey into the hobby started. You will find a positive, supportive group here.

regards

A bit of fun is always acceptable, Ahjay just likes us to take it to the snug if we go too far off track, I am surprised someone has not considered adding a area with handcuffs or a set of stocks...in fact my layout has a set ready, an old joke when we used to joke back in the day

In The Stocks Stock Photos & In The Stocks Stock Images ...
