For the most part of my layout I have Peco P10 on peco turnouts mounted under the turnout. I also have some Peco P-11 side mounts I had to use due to space problems and can't use a P-10 because of frame work. In my 50 years of buying I acquired some PICO (German) double slip  turnouts and 3 ways with side mount solenoid point motors plus some Atlas turnouts with #65 underside mount solenoid point motors.
I am  in the process of installing ADS-2sx and ADS-8sx  Decoders and see a high power warning about the CDU. The question is will this cause burnout of the much  smaller solenoid point motors? Could a resistor in line with these make them last longer or is it not a problem?
Thank You in advance for your advice.

The CDU will do more to extend the life of your solenoids than harm them. A short burst of adequate power that is immediately stopped is far better for a coil than a much longer under-powered pulse that will heat them far more. All of the brands you mention will be just fine with the ADS decoders.

Also - If you end up with any of the 2-wire DC solenoids sometimes used in EU models, just add our SDC adapters to the ADS decoders to turn them from 3 to 2 wire outputs.

Thank  you For the information. I like the ADS-2sx and ADS-8sx decoders but they have been hard to find in the USA  and impossible to get at any train shop in Utah as I have tried for over a year at one so that blows the support your local hobby shop.

Hi Warren

ADS decoders are actually (only just though) in short supply right now.

Our US distributor may have some (Heartland Hobby Wholesale) and may be able to advise you which dealers have stock in the USA - further new production is due in about 8 weeks. (We did not intend to run out... but sales keep accelerating  so got a little ahead of production scheduling, and with the current shortages of microprocessors world wide, its hard to pull production forward)

regards, Richard
