I have just purchased a set of the above ground signals and had a read and a play this afternoon.

I am a little confused by the instructions as regards setting the DCC addresses, page 5 of the instructions.  From what I can see you can decide on what the address of the first signal is and then the others will be automatically determined sequentially from that.

What if I am not using some of those numbers for ground signals because, for instance some points may be using semaphores instead?  Say I want to use ground signals on point addresses 1, 2, 3, 4, 11 and 12, the others I do not want to use ground signals on. I want to number my Alpha Mimic controller to specific numbers individually, otherwise I might be wasting significant numbers of channels.  In the above example I might want to address channels 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 to any address numbers beyond 12.

The question is can the signal channels be given individual addresses or are you only able to assign the controller to a sequence of 12 starting from a chosen first one?

Hi BB,
The Alpha Mimic is only addressable as a series of 12 numbers.
i.e. set the "lead" address and then the other 11 are in sequence.

Channels are not individually addressable.

Thanks for the clarification Mick, that was what I thought.  It is a great shame as it makes an otherwise great product a lot more restrictive than it should be.  Maybe a future update can make it a little bit more flexible.

One of the  frequently repeated strengths quoted of the product is the fact that it is economical yet limitations in numbering like this has the potential to make it less so.  The only way round it that I can see is to re-number points and accessories in such a way as to ensure the ones that relate to requiring ground signals are numbered between 1-12.  If you are well into your build this could be a quite daunting task.
