I have a situation where I can control 3 tortoise point motors with 1 address. With the current disruption in supplies and delivery as a temporary measure to run my layout can I connect an additional tortoise machine to the existing crossover which is controlled by 2 Tortoise motors. Will the output from a single AD8fx port sufficient to control all 3 motors.

I know with cobalts it is possible to throw up to around 5 of them at the same time or perhaps more the support team can confirm this so as long as the tortoise current draw is similar to cobalt there should not be any reason why not.

I could not edit my previous post as the dots were not there. Just wait first to confirm you can load that many on each port with a tortoise as the may say only X amount on each ad8fx port just to be safe.

If I remember rightly you can operate three Cobalt SS motors from one channel of the control unit.

Sorry it took so long to see the comments. Thank you guys. I have connected the third tortoise and it works without any problems. Will continue and see how it fairs but I think 3 is not a big load.

The installation sheet for the Tortoise indicates the current draw of the Tortoise is 16 ma at stall.  Since the AD-8fx shuts off current after stall there should not be a load on the AD-8fx once the motors complete movement.  I could not find an operate current draw of the Tortoise.

You may want to send an e-mail to Circuitron asking what the operate current draw of the Tortoise is.  Also one to DCC Concepts asking what the maximum current load on an AD-8fx output can be.  As with all electronics, if overloaded, it may not fail the first or second time but eventually will fail.
