Buildings on your layout seems a simple subject, BUT the second you start thinking, ready to plonk e.g. Skaledale (Hornby), card kit e.g., Metcalf, et al and do not even get me started on the levels of scratch build, because you can argue kit bashing is scratch, you can use real made items and mix and match or you can even 3D your models, the choice is immense.

but regardless people like to improve, painting, and particularly weathering is very popular, and I am a serious resin plonk and play fan, taking ownership and feeling i have personalised and made it mine 🙂

Even a simple little hut can get some great character if you give it a little attention.

Feel free to show your own updates here 🙂

Improves include but are not limited to

1. A sheet of A4 paper the corner painted with dirty water or cold tea, left to dry cut to size and glue on the door for a faded notice

2. some thinned black paint, acrylic is my choice, brushed onto the walls vertically so any stripping is indicative of water stains, the water naturally falling into crevices etc as in real life. Several layers usually is better.

3. some thicker paint blobbed onto the roof line and painted a green yellow to infer moss or lichen.

4. very thinned black paint OR weathering powders. I once won some DCC concepts powders in a competition and usually use those 🙂. Although cheap makeup can be used at a push 🙂 on the inside of the windows to infer dirt.

4918 and as you do similar to other nearby buildings it builds up where the eye does not notice items because they look normal 🙂 IMG_4931.jpg
