Hi. I have eight heathcote IR-DOTS which are on both ends of my layout. The tracks which these are on will eventually be covered and so invisible to me.  I use them to tell me when a train needs to be stopped as I run my system manually I would like to incorporate these on my mimic panel. Is this possible? If so can some one please tell me what components I need and how to install them. Thank you

IR dots have an output that is usable for indicator LEDs. All you need do is find it on the version you have and add a resistor+LED. As a general guide 1 to 5k resistor in the positive lead will be about right for red or green LEDS. Add more resistance for less bright, less resistance (but not below 1k) for brighter. The resistor should be 1/4 watt or more power handling.

If you are not sure, they/Heathcote should be able to advise you by email which terminals to use if you give them the model number.

Thanks AHJAY. Would I be able to use your mimic lights and if so would I still need to go through a mimic board. I would like to keep my mimic panel all matching if that is possible.

Hello Len

you can use the LEDs no problem. Add-on packs of LEDs are available without the control board. However the IRdots do not have digital addresses so the mimic board itself would not be involved.

I have my IRdots wired to eCos via a LDT feedback module. Would this alter the situation? Photo enclosed S88 from IRdots.jpg

Not really in relation to the mimic board. Mimic needs to see a specific accessory decoder address to act.
However you may be able  to pick up a low voltage for the LEDs via the LDT feedback module if you experiment (date feedback is low current 3~5v high or low)

Thank you Ahjay. Is there anything in you arsenal that will allow any IRs to be used with mimic. As I am in the mids of rewiring moving or adding things is not a problem.

Hi Len
In a round about way, yes, but it will actually be far, far more complicated than just getting the IR to turn the LED on and off directly.

I will do some research and find out if there is a direct IR product option with dcc address transmission but I really do doubt it.
