Most of us will be aware, by now, that Hornby have announced a new tooling Rocket - DCC ready, too.

For those interested, there are a good few pictures in Hornby's Engine Shed Newsletter, this is a link to it.

https://www.hornby.com/uk-en/news/the-engin...phensons-rocket

It's also worth scrolling, well down the page, to the pictures of the DCC decoder fitting. It looks like they used a Hornby 6 pin, so other makes of decoder should be even smaller. The Decoder will need a harness to connect to the Hornby 6 pin socket. A ZN6D Zen from DCC Concepts has a small stay-alive, which might be useful, but whether there is room, I don't know.  There seems to be space between the two PCBs. [??]

Julian, The link seems to be broken.  It does go to the Hornby Website but you get a 404 error.

Thanks BB, I just got the same

This should go to the Engine Shed, it's the first article

If it goes to the Hornby website again, you can navigate straight to it on the drop-down from Community.

That works julian.  I actually think it is a very attractive model and would make for a very unusual display piece.  I would really like to know whether a sound decoder and a speaker could be squeezed in somewhere though and if anyone does a suitable sound file that would work for it.

It would appear that a sound decoder could be fitted under the tender's chassis and speaker in the barrel.
I look forward to Paul Chetter converting one, i may follow him with mine.
The decoder for a Bachmann Baldwin might even do the job, 6 pin and small [Zimo 648R, l believe]. sound could be pretty close, too.
being Zimo, wheel speed rates etc should be adjustable.

It is a project that Paul might just find difficult to resist and it will be interesting to see what might emerge....  waiting for Paul to indicate a possible interest..

Hornby have wired their DCC 6 pin socket to the inside of the barrel. The ESU or LOC decoders might just fit with the socket in the barrel so the speaker might well be better from under the Tender.

But the barrel will form a better speaker enclosure than nothing.
Until l get one, l am ambivalent as to the actual fit.
My locos are hard-wired anyway, so it frees up more space.
The conversions that l do for the shop generally have to be hard-wired as well, being pre ''dcc-ready'' models in the main.
I am not afraid of a soldering iron, frequently soldering direct to decoders, then again, l have the correct kit [6 different irons].
