Thanks for the help
I now have the 3 way point working
But now have another problem

Some of the points move the opposite was to the direction selected
I have seen mention of programming  197

Will this correct this issue ?

How do you do it

I am using alpha switch D control panel  and NCE power cab

Actually the motor IS going in the direction it is commanded to move but the physical installation is reversed as sometimes happens with special pointwork.

The actual direction can be swapped by rotating the motor 180 degrees OR by changing it with settings.

If it is a 3 way you probably will not have room for rotation... so do it with the built-in software feature. (use address command 197) It is quite simple and there are clear instructions in the manual and on the website.

Here is a summary of them (attached MS word file).

What happens if you change direction merely by swapping the power feed wires to terminals 1 & 2?

You cannot do that with a digital device. If it was a DC powered motor it would work fine.

As Ahjay said easier to create a false point numbered 197 on dcc controller put the point motor  in set mode on switch . operate point  197 once  direction will be changed then set switch  back to run

Thanks for that AHJAY. Just out of interest - what would happen if the wires were switched round?

If you are using the frog switch terminal S1, then the frog polarity will be reversed when you swap the feed wires.

Otherwise - nothing else will happen.

It's similar to a loco going "forward" on DCC - usually chimney first for a steam loco. Lift it off the track and turn it round - it will still go forward - chimney first.

Cheers,
Mick
