I'm thinking of buying an Alpha Meter as I think it will provide useful information.

I also have an over current circuit breaker in line with the output from the Ecos controller so my question is do I put the Alpha Meter between the Ecos and the circuit breaker or do I put the Alpha Meter between the circuit breaker and the bus?

Thanks in advance.

Hi BB,

I too am thinking of getting the Alpha Meter. I have a NCE Powercab, the Alpha Power and Alpha Box and a PSX-1 circuit breaker to the track bus. The DCC Concepts guys told me to fit the meter between the Alpha Box and the PSX-1
Hope this helps

Sounds like a pretty similar situation, thanks Malc.  I'll plan on the same unless I hear otherwise.

I now need an enclosure that they can both go in!

Likewsie, it should be an option, at least.
Mine will be needed to move from layout to layout [3 of my own].
Also, when trouble-shooting at club and friends' layouts.
Idle thought, mount it in a panel box with a spare DCD-DAP and/or jack plug or crocodile clips to give ultimate adaptability. This would adapt tp my layout, my test track and also my test/programming track. [sorry, all at Settle, can't afford 4]

We did post an article about a box for it including the part numbers...

Question - do you really need us to create a case? it is quite possible of course.

I want to get my over current trip unit in the box as well so I need something slightly larger.  I've just found a very neat one from RS Components but I suspect that you would do well with an enclosure to match the unit. If you could supply it with the hole in the lid removed and a couple of cable glands you would be onto a winner!

I was thinking of using plugs to connect so I could use it more flexibly but decided that permanent connections would be more reliable and I have a very good Fluke meter anyway so don't really need it.

Next question for Ahjay, I've now just about finished my two drums of dropper cable and need further supplies.  As DCCconcepts still do not have stocks can you point us in the direction, i.e. a link, of a comparable cable that you would recommend for use as dropper cables.  I don't seem to be able to find 26 strand x 0.15mm wire anywhere and I'm concerned about flexibility for soldering to the base of rails.

Your products have a distinct house ''style'' that few of us could match [l certainly could not].
I do realise that it might be impossible to satisfy all different ideas, some will want just the Alphameter, others will want a DCD-DAP, others an overload unit, others no doubt have their own ideas.
Maybe again, subject to the meter's depth being feasible [still awaiting delivery of mine], would it be possible to use a blank ''Alpha'' case, top-loading the meter and the DCD-Dap, with the ability to fit sockets into the end for various leads.
As l said earlier, just my musings.
Keep well

As to the position...

The idea is to measure the voltage at the track end of thje circuit...
So - Ideally the meter should be as close to the track as possible.

Therefore the simple answer is "it is the last thing in the chain of wiring before the rails. However if separatre breakers are being used or if the layout does not have long wire runs, then before the individual circuit breakers would be fine.

Ahjay, can you help with the question regarding dropper wire please?

Just found the article, nice one Mick.
Thanks Ahjay.
My panel arrived at 11.00 this morning. It now has an ability to plug into any of my 3 layouts' feeds via plugs and sockets.

Is there any advantage in running it in the feed to my ESU decoder programmer/tester? I suspect that there may be.
