Quite some time ago, I decided to build a small depot diorama mainly to try out new ideas and adding details, but of course is a perfect model for taking photos.

I saw a large scale depot a few years ago and thought that something similar is feasible in 00 / 4mm.

I still have a long way to go before 'finished' but the results so far have been encouraging.

love it, the ladders and baskets are great, brass kits? I like the open windows and the roff support work, lots of lovely detailing, nice loco too 🙂

Thanks Jaz!

The baskets and ladders are from laser cuts from Scale Model Scenery. The ladders are a recent addition to their range.

Still plenty that I want to do on the diorama and make some more details. I will leave a few of these loose so that they can be moved around to suit when taking photographs.

I've taken a few more photos, this time featuring my green diesels.

Wow!
That's pretty damn good and so realistic (I hope someone spotted D5301 leading wheels lol). Dioramas must be ideal for spending time on when space or time is limited.

I think the attention to detail, particularly in the painting is superb, and some of the effects on the diesels work very well.  One thing that caught my eye and spoilt things a bit is the chain on the chain hoist not hanging down realistically.  This stuff is fairly close to scale for OO and hangs a lot more realistically:

Thanks Larry. Yes, noticed that myself, but after posting the photos! Oops.

Many thanks. I will look at getting some chain ordered. I will be ordering some other parts from Scale Model Scenery in the new year. I've used quite a few of their products previously, such as the access ladders used on the depot.

that is impressive I love the ATD, the heads up on the chain is also very useful I need a good amount for 8 hoists in my diorama

A friend came round and brought some of his locos, so I took a few on the diorama.

When you put the locos into a setting like that they take on a much more imposing presence and you suddenly feel their size.  Great shots and some excellent weathering on them.

The setting does provide a perfect photo backdrop for anything you might want to put in it.

I think the black and white shot works particularly well.  Very atmospheric.
