Welcome to Arboretum Valley, which is a number of interlinked 00 gauge railway layouts and dioramas to hide some of the less attractive track work.

It includes but is not limited to;

Goathland, a representation of the real NYMR North Yorkshire Moors Railway in preservation but also has some Heartbeat TV series and Harry Potter references as they were filmed there.

Goathland village / Aidensfield village Heartbeat TV series used the real Goathland village, renaming some of the buildings, this was so popular that the TV buildings were made by Bachmann to represent some of these buildings. E.G. Scripps garage, Aidensfield Arms the pub.

Kalborough, a generic larger station very loosely using Peterborough station although the iconic Art Deco station has nothing what so ever to do with it, there is a resin building that is clearly modelled on the one at Peterborough....that's just how 'loosely' it is 😃

I have the initial work on on other stations, but there are not advanced and could just as easily change, and i made areas so I could switch in and ut stations and associated buildings if I got bored.

There is also diorama, including water features. There is a RAF area where reenactments take place, and a supposed filming crew have a base. I can be tongue in cheek and hope people enjoy.

If anyone ever notices me losing the plot and breaking the rules please feel free to SCREAM 🙂

Goathland modelled in preservation now only have 2 tracks by the camping coach area

Please be aware that I like people commenting, good or bad, criticism always welcome ,as it makes me look closer at the model. So do feel free to add your five pennies worth. 🙂

This area is known as the High Road. A road as well as track runs around the whole of the layout, and this area allows you to look down on Kalborough Sidings, behind here is also a mural wall where friends over the years have been immortalised 🙂 .

The High Road has a lay by often used by a burger van, and he tends to leave his black bin bags near the full bin, and the local fox is rather a connosseur of burnt leftovers 😃IMG_5278.jpg

The Mural Wall 2034.

As this is not always seen as true modelling, although there is plenty of real murals around the country in stations, the advantage is that as you wall down the layout room you cannot see it, you have to lean over and photograph back to the gangway to get images, so it is a sort of private joke 😃

I tend to dabble, having a go at things as they attract my attention, my attention span being out as good as a butterflies 🙂 But overall my plan is to have a reasonable believable layout which covers various eras, with that in mind i pay attention to social historical detail. The kind of thing I like to get right is what kind of everyday detail fits in specific eras, so for instance figures which includes anything  e.g. milkmen, postmen, telephone engineers, policemen, station staff and fashion tends to be of interest to me. Often the item I want to model is not available, and then I have a go and make it. Some items items more successful than others.

I also like to tweak items, many people, my self including, like weathering locos, wagons, buildings, I also like to improve on bought models, often small easy touches can vastly improve the look of a bought item. Plant machinery 4331 IMG_4331.jpg

Modelling to my mind is made up of people who all have a personal view of how it should be, they all have different influences, and different skills which effect ho their interact wit the hobby, not matter if you are a jack of some trades, a jack of all trades, or have more specialist skills, or do not even model but are well informed about any part of the subject has value.

I can run my layout totally vanilla, in as much as I try to represent a real place, a generic place that is believable, a specific time period, and that often suits most people most of theme, I also being a cheeky beggar tend to run a total tutti fruitti option, the optional part being added but can be removed from the actual layout. My layout claims to have a film crew, and they go around filming, this obviously relates to Goathland and the real filming of TV series and Harry Potters films who have both used Goathland for filming. I even take it further and will go into la la land. Some more subtle than others

I also like doing Daleks, in fact elsewhere it did get quite heated when some one said Daleks were totally inappropriate  and not even accurate, then loads of modellers kindly popped up pictures of Daleks on the underground at station etc etc, clearly there is a lot of Dr who fans 🙂

7092 IF these are a step too far, just say and I will desist 🙂 IMG_7092.jpg

Usually I have always stuck everything into the one thread Arboretum Valley. But if there are specific areas that it would be preferred were run as separate entities such as how to model water, I can do separate threads for discussion.

I expect to edit the thread before opening day, but I assume something other than a few posts will be required so that there is content.Feel free to give me a heads up as to how you prefer to go.
