In a sense you have answered the question already, (reduce flanges or replace wheelsets) but I am 100% surprised that its happening.

When we created Legacy track we paid close attention to this issue and we tried may brands even incuding some European brands with deep-ish flanges and they ran just fine without hitting the chairs. Current UK prototype production products should never have flanges that deep!

I have contacted Dapol to ask for there opinions

Hi Ahjay
what I neglected to say is that I have no issues with the Legacy track. To give you my honest opinion it is far superior to any flexible track on the market .
The issue is with this model just thought the forum should know about this problem.
I will let you know what Dapol’s reply is.
Bu again your product is very good and in no way do I want to give that impression

Hi John, I understand and had no thought about the track being criticiesd. Actually we had already compressed chair height slightly to make it as usable as possible, but its still less flange clearance than say regular Peco C75 simply because Bullhead chairs are big compared to Flat Bottom rail fixings..

I am quite interested in Dapols response though, as the wheels on the railcar are clearly out of step with current UK RTR wheel profiles.

Kind regards, Ahjay

Hi Ahjay

it seems as though Dapol have used BRMSB flanged wheels and not RP25 although this has not been confirmed.

I have spoken via email with Joel there Sales Director. He is talking with there tech department.

He has already offered to take the model back which is the last resort really
So I am looking at replacing the wheels . I will confirm this all when I get a reply.

But it is worth noting for other members of the Forum.
Cheers

It is indeed. It makes no sense at all using a very old / no longer used wheel profile so coarse in 2018.... and its not consistent with wheels in their other products in OO. I have to wonder if it isn't simply a matter of forgetting to specify it properly.

Hi
Dapol have been excellent but unfortunately can not rectify the problem .They are issuing a full refund.

I have also added Dapol technical departments comments for information.

“Further to Joel's email, I'm afraid I cannot offer a simple solution. We fit OO finescale profile wheels to our models which are compatible with all usual OO track standards. This type of track has a higher chair/lower profile rail which is outside of the OO gauge standard.”

Happy modelling

Its a shame they didn't consider offering you a refund sufficient to cover the cost of replacement wheels.  That might have kept everyone happy.

What BS from them. If the DAPOL railcar has Finescale wheels, I am a randy 21 year old blonde girl.

That claim is nonsense of course.

reality: we looked and specified carefull so that Legacy DID work with all brands without overly compromising its looks. As a resilt, Legacy track works well with UK-prototype models goind back many years, and even copes with some of the very deep flange EU stuff as its coning lets it centre away from the chair root... And - in the real world, we prove that many times over as we run many brands and models on it almost daily as it is part of our showroom layout.

A few minutes with a digital verner shows...

Track: We use both these on our test layout
Code 75, rail head to clip is 1.31mm
Legacy track, rail head to top of chair 1.01mm

Wheels: measuring a few models within easy reach of my desk...
* Bachmann wheel, flange 0.74mm
* Hornby wheel, flange 0.92mm (actually too deep in 2019 terms - but no problem on Legacy track of course!!!)
* DJ wheel flange 0.81mm
* 30 year old Mainline flange 0.9mm
* USA flange 0.62mm

Inevitable result:
Even allowing for a small measuring error, any Dapol model that has wheels that touch the tops of the chairs certainly does not have OO fine scale wheels!

Re the Email:
It is an email with an interesting contradiction. The previously quoted email says they use BRSMB standards, this one says OO finescale. A contracition because they are definitely not the same thing, so in reality I think they do not know what they are saying.

Nuff said I think
