Mister Rusty
Just a thought re: front hubs.
Thee was usually a 'step-ring' fitted to the wheel for access to cab and screen.
This would be kept clean for safety, they don'tarf skin yer shins !😫
While being there, the brass would be given a rub, probably, also temperature would be checked for a hot bearing, more prevalent on a front wheel.
The rear would be well-gunged with grease or oil from the bearings oozing.
Also the rear was likely to be a casting, the front a fabricated or pressed brass  construction, in my experience.
Of course, there are always exceptions etc, etc.

I have no idea why but all the original pictures disappeared from the first post and became non-working links.  I've replaced them again, sorry if anyone couldn't see them.
